Why I Joined

Member Endorsements – Here are some of our member stories:

Amanda Chiavini – “I joined AAUW Nashville in 2015 after being invited to a meeting by a current member of the branch. AAUW was new to me, but when I heard about the mission to advance women and girls academically and professionally, it was an easy decision to join. I enjoy the fellowship of our Nashville branch and the opportunity to meet an eclectic group of dynamic women who share in my vision for a more equitable future for my daughters and all women around the world.”

Bonnie Seay – “I first joined AAUW while living for many years in Northern Virginia. I loved the activism and had always been a proponent of women’s equality. As a high school and college teacher, I was constantly in contact with young girls and women and their issues both in and outside of the educational environment. One presidential election year we worked to get women signed up for voting, and I wound up on national TV for a brief second in that capacity at a shopping center near my home! I had a house that was perfect for entertaining and was able to be hostess for several of our meetings. Since moving from Virginia in 1993 and living in two other states before returning to Tennessee in 2001, I had not been connected. When I heard of our startup branch here in Nashville, I immediately joined and realized how much I had missed participation in these critical issue and interaction with dedicated women. AAUW Nashville is a fantastic group and I encourage you to join us in our community, state, and national outreach!”

Holly Czuba – “I joined the Salisbury, NC branch of AAUW in 2009 at the urging of Edith Alcorn, a longtime member and wonderful woman who was gracious enough to invite me.  I was 27 at the time, and this was my first introduction to organized advocacy. I fell in love with the organization, appreciating both national goals and local chapter meetings that focused on expanding horizons, intellectual conversation and informed speakers. I was lucky enough to attend and speak at NCCWSL in 2012 where I lectured on having a professional “web presence”.  I moved to Nashville in spring 2016 and was thrilled to find AAUW Nashville in November 2016.”
