Mary Hamilton Purcell, international women’s rights advocate and mother of former Nashville mayor Bill Purcell passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2019.  She was a longtime member of AAUW, even serving as president in the 1980s. In the 1990s, she represented UNICEF’s Working Group on Girls at the U.N. Fourth World Conference on Women in Huairou, China. She was recognized for her work in 2006 by the NGO Committee on UNICEF’s Working Group on Girls.
