Equal Pay Day Events Around Tennessee

From Letha Granberry, President AAUW TN

April 5, 2018

To All,

Tuesday, April 10, marks Equal Pay Day. The day that every woman working full time, year-round in the United States is paid just 80 cents for every dollar that a man is paid. This means she has to work until April 10, 2018 to be paid the same amount a man took home by December 31, 2017. In Tennessee the average woman makes 82 cents to every man’s dollar, although the comparison is a small increase from the national difference, the pay gap is still distressing.

Equal Pay Day is an opportunity to draw attention to the gender pay gap and to call for legislative action to help correct this disparity. Here in Tennessee AAUW branches are having community events that are focusing on the pay gap. If you are interested in attending a branch event, these are available:

Martin Branch 4-10-18

There will be a tabling event on the campus of University of Tennessee-Martin in the University Center.
