As you may know, AAUW of Tennessee offers scholarships for 2-3 undergraduate students to attend the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL). These students are chosen based on nominations from AAUW College/University Partners and AAUW Tennessee branches.

NCCWSL will be held May 29 – June 1, 2019 at the University of Maryland College Park. The attached flyer explains the nomination process in detail, but I’ve included an overview below.

Wait, what is NCCWSL?

The National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL) is a two-and-a-half day conference centered around the enhancement of leadership skills of college women and promoting effectiveness in their work on campus and out in their community.

What does the scholarship cover?

The scholarship will cover registration, which includes lodging and meals. If your AAUW Tennessee branch nominates a student and they are elected, your branch will be expected to contribute to the student’s travel costs.

Who is eligible?

Any undergraduate student who is currently attending a 2 or 4-year college or university in the State of Tennessee. Nominees should have some leadership experience, exhibit strong potential for growth in leadership, and exhibit good written communication skills. The selected student will be asked to submit an application detailing their extra-curricular activities, leadership positions and a 250-350 word essay. Scholarship recipients will be asked to donate 4 hours of volunteer work related to AAUW.

How do I submit a nomination?

Send a letter or email to Sue Byrd using the contact information above.

Your letter should contain the following:

• Student’s full name, mailing address, phone number, and email address
• Student’s major and expected graduation date
• Student’s permission to nominate with agreement to attend NCCWSL if selected
• Your reasons for nominating the student and your opinion of how the student
  will benefit from the NCCWSL experience
