Expanding Suffrage History:
African-American Women in Tennessee

Sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Nashville

Nashville, TN: The League of Women Voters of Nashville will host two programs in November that take a break from the election news of the day. The programs will look back at women’s history in Tennessee. Rebecca Price, Founder and CEO of Chick History, will speak of that organization’s initiative to digitize family and local history related to African American women’s political history in Tennessee before 1930. “Protecting the Legacy” is an effort to expand the narrative of suffrage, voting, and political activity throughout the state during this time period.

The first program will be Friday, November 2, 2018 from noon-1:00 p.m. at the Lifsey Building of Goodwill Industries, 937 Herman Street, Nashville, 37208.  The public is encouraged to bring their own lunch and arrive at 11:30 for informal lunchtime conversation prior to the program. The location provides ample free parking on site.

On Wednesday, November 14, 2018, from 6:00-7:00 p.m., Ms. Price will repeat the program at the Green Hills Public Library Community Room, 3701 Benham Avenue, Nashville, 37215.

All programs sponsored by the League of Women Voters are free and open to the public.

The League of Women Voters of Nashville is a non-partisan volunteer organization promoting the informed and active participating of citizens in government.
